| What does it mean to go Green? |
Earth Animal is helping to become "GREEN" for awareness and recognizing what is happening to the Earth and the Polar Bears. For the first time, all eyes of the world are focusing on the Artic. This region is warming at alarming rates and it will and has had implications on us all. It is not too late to a make a change. The Polar Bears as well as many species are endangered.
We must live in harmony with the earth and lend a hand now for our futures.

| 10 Easy Steps to Go Green! |
| 1. CHANGE YOUR LIGHTBULBS: |
Purchase (CFL) energy saving compact fluorescent light bulbs.
Switch off lights that do not need to be on, especially when you leave a room. The less that electricity is used, the less energy is needed, and therefore less greenhouse gas is pumped into the atmosphere.
| 2. PAY YOUR BILLS ON-LINE: |
| Eliminating your paper trail by paying bills on-line does more than save trees. If every US home did this, the switch would cut solid waste by billions a year. It also helps to reduce fuel consumption by planes and trucks that transport paper checks. |
| 3. WRAP YOUR WATER HEATER IN AN INSULATED BLANKET: |
| Most water heaters lose heat and waste energy because they lack internal insulation. Insulate your home. Insulate the roof, floors, and walls. This will save 20% on your heating bills. |
| 4. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL FARMER: |
| Fruits, veggies, eggs, milk... produced close to your home rack up fewer "petroleum miles" than foods trucked across the country. You can search your local farmers: harvest.org and type in your zipcode. Paul Newman hosts an organic market every summer in the parking lot of the Westport Playhouse! Shop at your local produce market. |
| 5. SHUT OFF YOUR COMPUTERS: |
| A screen saver is not an energy savor. 75% of all electricity used in your home is standby power used for electronics such as T.V, DVRs, Computers, Stereos, Cell Phone Chargers. The average desktop computer consumes 60-250 watts a day. If you turned off your computers at night... that is a start! |
| 6.CHECK YOUR TIRES: |
| Keeping your tires properly inflated can improve gas mileage more than 4% If you improve your gas mileage your car will put fewer pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere each year. Research a Hybrid! |
| 7. PLANT BAMBOO: |
| Bamboo grows so quickly and is beautiful! It can grow at least 1 foot per day. It absorbs more CO2 than most plants! |
| 8. BUY RECYCLED PAPER: |
| Americans recycle 42 million tons of paper a year. 50% they used and the other was thrown out. Buy recycled paper it can use 60% less energy than virgin paper. Staples carries Recycled Copy Paper; it uses 30-100% fewer new trees for higher volume copy jobs. Cut scrap paper into quarters and use it to write phone messages rather than buying a new pad. |
| 9. TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR LAWN: |
| The U.S. spends billions of dollars on fossil-fuel-derived fertilizers that can leak into the earths ground and speed up the release of nitrous oxide, this is a greenhouse gas. Use a homemade fertilizer mix such as compost and grass clippings, stone meal, bone meal, wood ash... Water your garden in the evening, during the cooler hours of night. Plants lose less through evaporation, and use half as much water. |
| 10. RECYLCE YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE: |
| Consider a potted Christmas tree that can later be planted in the garden. As soon as X-mas is over, thousands of trees are dumped on the sidewalk. This process is costly and involves the waste of raw material that could benefit the soil. |
