Allergy-Free Skin
The skin is your animal’s largest and most visible organ, but it does much more than provide the familiar outline of your dog or cat. Metabolically, the skin is an organ of elimination, facilitating the the removal of many toxins, such as those from chemical additives in food and the residues of drugs, pesticides and vaccines.

The process of detoxifying or metabolizing such body waste can cause the skin to become inflamed. It shouldn’t surprise you to hear that dermatological problems are the most common reason for veterinary visits. Itchy skin and self-trauma are signs that normal skin metabolism has been interrupted. However, the conventional treatment of giving cortisone, while often necessary for short-term relief, does not provide a long-term solution and can set the stage for chronic skin disease.

Skin benefits. Double-check, and reduce if necessary, your animal’s “chemical load” of preservatives, artificial flavorings and colors, byproducts, as well as vaccines and chemicals such as flea-control products. It all adds up! In addition, some animals develop food allergies which can manifest as self-trauma and inflamed skin. In such instances, you may need to give your animal an elimination diet in order to isolate the culprit.

Skin solutions. Essential fatty acids are required for optimal function and health of the skin. In most instances, these can be supplied by Daily Health Nuggets. If your animal is suffering an acute skin crisis, add organic flaxseed oil on a short-time basis, at the following dosage:
:: Daily Health Nuggets
Flaxseed Oil (daily, with each meal)
Cat or Small Dog (up to 14 lb) 1/2 tsp
Medium Dog (15–34 lb) 1 tsp
Large Dog (35–84 lb) 2 tsp
Giant Dog (85+ lb) 1 Tbsp

In addition, vitamin B6 is a natural antihistamine and antiinflammatory. Add to the food of itchy animals twice daily at these doses:

Vitamin B6 (daily)
Cat or Small Dog (up to 14 lb) 25 mg
Medium Dog (15–34 lb) 50 mg
Large Dog (35–84 lb) 75 mg
Giant Dog (85+ lb) 100 mg
:: For severe itching:
Dr Goodpets – Scratch free (Twice Daily – orally alone)
Cat or Small Dog (up to 14 lb) 5 drops
Medium Dog (15–34 lb) 7 drops
Large Dog (35–84 lb) 10 drops
