Beat the Tick Season

Tick-born illnesses can mean serious health problems for your pet. Deer ticks, which can be  potential Lyme carriers, can not only negatively impact your pet’s quality of life and life span but they can also be detrimental to human health as well. In an effort to avoid these adverse effects, people will sometimes treat their lawns with chemicals, feed their pets tick-prevention medications, and use sprays containing DEET. But these methods of prevention may come at the cost of creating other illnesses. At Earth Animal, we believe that any method of prevention that has the potential to damage anyone’s health is not the way to protect your family or your pet. We know that there is Another Way.

How Chemical Flea and Tick Prevention Drugs Work

The drugs used in flea and tick control products and other insecticides is an anti-parasitic agent that works by disrupting the central nervous system of insects, ultimately leading to death. When pesticides are used on an animal, it may be difficult for the animal’s system to process the chemicals, causing a strain on the liver and kidneys and affecting whole body health.

Introducing Earth Animal’s Natural Flea & Tick Prevention Program

We believe that fleas and ticks can be guarded against without having to use harsh chemicals, neither internally nor topically. Insecticides and pesticides are not your only option for effective pest protection. You can Go Natural with us and strengthen your dog’s and cat’s immune systems because the healthier the animal, the less likely for any insect infestation. Dogs and cats do not have to get fleas or ticks. You can have a flea and tick free life.

Two Simple Steps to Get Started

  • Add our safe for dogs AND cats powders and drops daily to the morning and evening meals, all year round, even during the winter months. The combination of vitamins, minerals, and herbs in our drops and powders helps to change the odor of your pet’s blood, making it unattractive to fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and other pests who won’t seek to bite or imbed on your animal companion. The longer your animal digests the drops and powders, the more pungent the dog’s or cat’s internal odor is to bugs (though undetectable to humans), steering pests away from your precious pet.
  • Use our Topical Herbal Spray for extra protection for your dogs only (this one isn’t for cats) if you go into areas where insects are more prevalent, such as parks, beaches, and heavily wooded areas. Our spray is truly herbal; no DEET or other harsh chemicals are used, making our Topical Herbal Spray safe for both the dogs and people you love.

Helpful Tips:

  • Stay Away From Tick Breeding Grounds

Avoid walking your dog in moist, shaded, leaf covered areas and areas with low growing ground cover, especially in spring and summer. Stay clear of areas where deer and small rodents spend a lot of time, as these animals are common carriers of Lyme bearing ticks.

  • Always Check For Ticks After Spending Time Outside

It generally takes upwards of 36 hours for an infection from a tick bite to begin. Therefore, removing a tick as soon as possible is vital. Whenever your pet spends time outside, do a tick check as soon as he/she comes back in. Check between the toes, the legs and joints, and especially around the eyes and inside the ear flaps. Embedded ticks should be removed using fine-tipped tweezers. If your dog or cat has been diagnosed by your veterinarian with a tick-borne illness, visit our online Pet TestTM and click on Fleas & Ticks. Answer the series of questions and a custom program of recommended supplements will be provided to help support your pet’s immune system.

  • Watch for Side Effects of Chemical Flea and Tick Treatments

If you choose to use a chemical flea and tick treatment, be on the look out for potential side effects. Individual sensitivities may occur after using any pesticide. Some pets may experience temporary irritation at the site of the product application. If symptoms persist or become severe within a few days of application, consult your veterinarian immediately. Watch for side effects including: redness, hair loss at the placement site of topical chemicals, irritation to your dog’s skin, itching, sores, body twitches or convulsions, loss of appetite, or lethargy.

A Note on Lyme Disease

Because pets exhibit vague symptoms of Lyme disease and there is not definitive diagnostic testing for it, a Lyme infection in dogs and cats can be difficult to diagnose. The most consistent symptom in many animals with a Lyme infection is periodic lameness and limping or favoring one of the front paws. Generally, if a blood titer is high and clinical signs for Lyme are present, we are in favor of following your veterinarian’s prescribed course of antibiotics in addition to our recommended nutritional support to help build up your pet’s immune system.
