Earth Animal’s Sustainability Promise
Melting glaciers, sea level rise, extreme temperatures, and increased wildfires are just some of the symptoms of climate change that the Earth has been exhibiting in recent years. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, an organization consisting of over 1,300 scientists, predicts that these and other effects of the changing climate will worsen over time as the planet continues to warm due primarily to human activity. At Earth Animal, it is our mission to not only do our part to limit the damage being done to our home but to work to improve the climate and heal the Earth. That is why we do all we can, from corporate governance to supply chain, to run a sustainability-driven company, and why we are so proud to be an Icon Member of the Pet Sustainability Coalition working to bring about industry-wide changes to help the Earth.
The Canopy Project
Throughout the month of April, as we celebrate Earth Month, we have committed 1% of our online sales to support the Canopy Project, a tree-planting project of EarthDay.org that plants trees across the world where they are needed most. Since 2010, EARTHDAY.ORG™ has planted tens of millions of trees with The Canopy Project, working worldwide to strengthen communities. They partner with global partners to reforest areas in dire need of rehabilitation, including areas with some of the world’s communities most at-risk from climate change and environmental degradation.
For every dollar we donate, the Canopy Project plants a tree in honor of amazing customers, and thanks to your support, we reached our goal of planting 3,000 trees! Thank you!
Flex Forward
It is estimated that pet food bags produce about 300 million pounds of plastic each year and that 99% of that plastic waste is not recycled. To help solve this problem, we have teamed up with the Pet Sustainability Coalition, Pet Food Experts Distribution, retailers, and consumers to create the Flex Forward program. Now in its pilot phase, the goal of Flex Forward is to collect pet product packaging that consumers return to neighborhood pet stores. Once picked up, the bags are taken to a recycling facility where they are converted into pellets that will then be upcycled into new products, such as dog bowls and beds. Those upcycled products will then be donated to animal shelters. PSC is working with its more than by working with manufacturers to move away from plastic packaging altogether, with a goal of eventually eliminating plastic waste from pet products. We started with the packaging for our Wisdom Dog Food. By using bio-based packaging, we are significantly limiting fossil fuel use, GHG emissions, and water use.
Riverstone
After years of searching for a facility that we felt was good enough to produce our Wisdom Dog Food, we realized that our standards were never going to be met by an existing facility. So, we built Riverstone, our own “craftory”, to produce our Wisdom Dog Food to our exacting standards and satisfy our sense of environmental consciousness. And, to ensure that the plant continues to meet our high expectations, we instituted an environmental management system to monitor the plant’s output.

From our bio-based packaging for Wisdom Dog Food to reusable shopping bags made from recycled plastic bottles, we are innovating environmentally-friendly practices in marketing, packaging, and our product displays because we know that everything, from the smallest step to the largest, can make an impact on climate change.
